The Unity Hall is intended to break down barriers that have traditionally divided the community and to build a healthy neighborhood for all, by providing resources and a venue for creativity. The development of the Unity Hall has been done through a collaborative effort with resident and stakeholder input to create a common vision and commitment to provide opportunities and a venue for collaboration for the surrounding community. Before the pandemic struck, several listening sessions were facilitated by community organizers; community engagement continues today through virtual meetings.

While under construction, the general contractor of BUH, Southway Builders, and their sub-contractors implemented a program aimed at hiring people who live in the neighborhood. While this initiative has come to an end with the finalization of construction, BUH Inc. intends to continue this commitment by offering on-the-job training opportunities connected to its workforce development program and the operations in the building.
